Routes for the sanctuaries and castles |

We begin our journey in the famous Palma de Mallorca, situated in the biggest bay of the island and the main host to tourism and places of cultural interest. Here we can visit the cathedral, San Francisco church, the Gothic castle Bellver, the Almudena - ancient Muslim citadel which has beautiful gardens, the Gran Hotel or the modern Can Forteza Rey buildings. The main beaches here are the lovely Cala Mayor, Can Pastilla, Palma Nova and Santa Ponça.
On now in the direction of Algaida, where we take a detour to Randa, a place where we can see the La Pau de Castellitx , a 13th century Roman hermitage with a Gothic interior, one of the oldest of this type in Mallorca. From the PM-332 road we arrive at Petra, which boasts the impressive Neo-baroque and Neo- classic 17th century Bonay monastery, which has been through various reforms during the beginning of the 20th century. The sanctuary is best known as the Cathedral of the Mountains, and was where Friar Junípero Serra preached his last sermon. Taking the PM-511 we continue on to Felanitx, surrounded by picturesque fields of wheat and almond trees. The most important monument here is the modern 20th century hermitage Puig de Santa Llúcia where the la Mare de Déu del Roser or Nuestra Señora del Rosario are worshiped. On the exterior there is a selection of ancient coats of arms from Cataluña, Mallorca, Aragon and Valencia. Inside there are some preserved ruins of the 17th century primitive hermitage. Another interesting monument which stands out is the Roman castle of Santueri which was reconstructed years later by the Muslims. We then take the C-714 until Manacor where we visit the 14th century Neo-baroque San Miguel hermitage. Recently restored, the interior houses the image of Nostra Dona de la Bona Pau . In the picturesque surrounding area you can admire the fountain of Cova Celda and enjoy some of their best beaches such as the Son la Cala Murada, Tropicana, Morlanda and Moreya. Taking the C-715, we arrive at the locality of Artá, an area which takes us to the 5th century Basilica de Son Peretó and the Sant Salvador church. Continuing on the same road we arrive at Capdepera, a popular tourist area with a wealth of important historical monuments including the19th century Neo-classic hermitage, Betlem, the 14th century Gothic castle Capdepera which was enlarges during the 16th and 18th century, the San Juan church in which sits the modern sculpture of the Virgen de la Esperanza, and the Miquel Nunis tower, better known as the Sa Velta tower. |
