The Baix de Llobregat route
The region of Baix de Llobregat extends from the Montserrat mountains all the way to the delta of the La Marina. Here the countryside contrasts between plains to the mountainous foot hills of the Sierra de Ordal.

We begin our journey in Collbató, a locality situated in the interior of the impressive Muntanya de Montserrat Nature Park. There are numerous intriguing caves where you can enjoy potholing, but the del Salnitre is considered the most prominent. Here the original old part of town is well preserved as well as the traditional ceramic pottery and organ construction, which the town is known for.

On the N-11 road we arrive at Martorell after stopping at Esparraguera and Abrera. Esparraguera is known for its important textile industry and still preserves many old traditions such as the La Pasion during Easter week, which is held in the Sanctuario de les Espases theatres and the medieval Santa María del Puig monastery. Abrera is a wine producing area in this region. In Martorell there is an ancient victory arch pertaining to the Pont del Diable, which was reformed in the 13th century. Other important monuments here are the Torre de las Hores, the 16th century Casa de la Villa, the renaissance Torre de Santa Llúcia, the Vicenç Ros municipal museum and the Sanatcana - L'Enrajolada museum.

On the C-243 we arrive at Castellví de Rosanes where the remains of an ancient castle, a Gothic house and the Miralles monastery. We continue onto Cobera de Llobregat to visit their parish church, which has an impressive medieval altarpiece inside.

On the N-340 we arrive now at Castellví, where there are the remains of a medieval castle, which has a Roman chapel, as well as the Roman churches of Santa María de Cervelló and Els Socors, the ancient Benedictine monastery of Sant Ponç de Corbera. Following the N-11 here we pass through various interesting towns - El Papiol with its Gothic medieval castle, San Feliu de Llobregat which is the centre and capital of this region, Sant Joan despi, where you'll see numerous works of modern architecture from J.M Julol - colleague of Gaudí, and Sant Boi de Llobregat which has the remains of Roman baths, various impressive stately houses and the Colònia Güel modern textile complex, which has many interesting building such as the 19th century parish church's crypt.

We take a detour and arrive in Torelles de Llobregat, best known for its Catalunya en Miniatura park, which reproduces scaled down models of most of Catalan's monuments. We finish our journey in Sant Climent de Llobregat, famous for their delicious cherries, which they celebrate annually in June with the Exposicio de Cieres.
