The Valley of Jerte route
You'll find the valley of the river Jerte between the Montes de Tras Sierra and La Sierra de Tormantos, mountain ranges. All the municipalities here have their own deeply rooted style of mountain architecture, with houses made from stone and wooden frame works. This region enjoys fantastic temperatures, rich gastronomy and picturesque countryside.

We begin our itinerary in En Tornavacas, which is on the border of Castilla y Léon, here there is the impressive 16th century Asunción church, which has been officially declared a building of historic and artistic value.

We take the N-110 on to the riverside town of Jerte. Here you can see the 18th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the area of oxen, which defeated an inferno during the war of independence. In the surrounding area you'll find the natural reserve - La Garganta de los Infiernos, which has a wonderful array of flora and fauna.

Continuing on the same road until we reach Cabezuela del Valle, which has been declared an area of Cultural Heritage by UNESCO due to its displays of popular architecture full of protruding balconies, galleries and wooden frame works. Here you can enjoy the 16th - 18th century San Miguel Arcángel church, raised upon an ancient synagogue.

Continuing on the N-110 we pass through Rebollar, situated in the right hand margin of the river Jerte, in incomparable countryside full of cherry orchard and olive groves. From El Pico de Ceburnal you get an incredible panoramic view over the valleys of Ambroz and Jerte. Between the local monuments here the 17th century Santa Catalina church stands out.

Rejoining the N-110 to Valdastillas, situated on the slopes of the San Bartolomé mountain range, where we visit the 16th century masonry church, Santa Maria de Gracia.

Continuing on the regional road until Piornal, which is restricted by La Vera. The emphasis here is on the local fiesta (celebration) or El Jarramplas, which has been declared part of the regional tourisms dates of interest and is celebrated in January each year, the fiesta of San Sebastian is also celebrated here and worth catching. Amongst the legacy of monuments here, you can enjoy the 15th century church of San Juan.

Carrying on until we arrive at Cabrero, famous for its brandies and liquors. It is situated in an incomparable landscape and surrounded by chestnut trees and cherry orchards. Here you can enjoy the 18th century masonry built San Miguel church.

Rejoining the N-110 until Casas del Castañar, where the most important monument is the masonry built San Juan church. At the end we stop at El Torno, on the slopes of the Montes de Tras Sierra, also known for its excellent brandies and liquors, and visit the 16th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad raised on granite and masonry.

Retomamos la carretera N-110 hacia Casas del Castañar, donde el monumento más importante está representado por la Iglesia de San Juan, realizada en mampostería. Por último, nos dirigimos a El Torno, en la ladera de los Montes de Tras Sierra. Conocida por sus excelentes aguardientes y licores. Destaca su Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad, levantada en granito y mampostería (siglo XVI).
