The Jacobea Segoviana route
Some pilgrims prefer to arrive at the Santiago pilgrimage via the Campiña Segoviana, which crosses through Salamanca.

We begin our journey in the locality of Los Huertos, which we arrive at on the Segovia - Coca road, taking a detour via Hontnares de Eresma on the C-605. At the entrance to Los Huertos you'll find an impressive medieval stone cross as well as the 18th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, famous for the "Maria" pilgrimage, and from here you can see the Eresma and the lush landscape of pines surrounding this area.

We rejoin the C-605 and take a detour to Añe which has the medieval church of San Juan Bautista with an interesting brick asymmetrical belfry.

We then take the road in the direction of Pinula de Ambroz to rejoin the C-605 road to Santa María la Real, in the heart of Campiña Segoviana. The former queen of Castilla, Catalina de Lancaster founded a monastery of which all that is left is a Roman cloister, with ornate decoration and scenes of the nobility from that era as well as Dominican monks, the "Sala de Capitular", Salon de Cortes and the Refrectorio de los Friales ( friars refectory).

Rejoining the C-605 again we take the exit for Santa Maria la Real a Nieva, the famous local winemaking area. In this lovely locality you'll find the Gothic church of Nuestra Señora de la Soterrana, where Blanca de Navarra(who had a relationship with Enrique IV, grandson of Catalina de Lancaster) is buried.

Finishing our journey we go to Coca, where there is an impressive 15th century military castle, decorated in Mudejar style this is one of the best known in the province of Segovia. There are also some remains of an ancient city wall and the city archway.
