Northern route of Fuerteventura
We begin our journey in Corralejo, a lovely tourist area where you can make out the islands of Lanzarote and Lobos in the distance. Here the countryside is full of rolling dunes and magnificent golden beaches to enjoy, such as the Médano, Los Matos and Alzada.

Taking the road to Lajares we stop in the Las Dunas de Corralejo nature park, which encases a large countryside of dunes, volcanic cones and numerous species of the islands flora and fauna, some of which are endemic. From here we descend into the locality of Lajares, famous for its intricate handcrafted embroidery. We then continue on the same road in the direction of the islands centre until we arrive at La Oliva, situated in the area known as the Malpaís de Arena Nature Park. With prominent monuments here such as the colonial style Casa de los Coroneles, the church which houses an 18th century altarpiece of Juan de Miranda, the Casa de Cilla which has the Museo del Grano and the lovely Canaries Art Centre.

We go on now in the direction of Tindaya, with the prominent Montaña Quemada, which possesses a monument in honour of Miguel de Unamuno and Podomorphic archaeological deposits. We end our journey in Puerto del Rosario and Puerto de Cabras which is the capital of the island and a lively commercial area. The picturesque urban area show the African influence on the local architecture, with beautiful façades full of brightly coloured flowers, modern buildings in streets perfectly laid out. Here you can enjoy the Virgen del Rosario church, patron saint of the town, the colonial style ancient fortress - National Parador, situated on the Playa Blanca and the House-Museum of Miguel de Unamuno.The best beaches here are the La Blanca del Matorral, Jacomar and the Gran Valle situated between cliffs.
