|
We begin our journey in the main town of Ibiza / Eivissa, declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. There are four main cultural and natural elements here, which consist of the walled grounds of Dalt de Vila where you'll find most of the areas monuments such as the impressive town hall building which is situated in the ancient Santo Domingo convent, the Almudaina or Ibiza castle which is a Arabic military enclosure, as well as the Necrópolis de Puig des Molins, where there is a Monographic Archaeological Museum, the Phoenician Sa Caleta and the lush meadows full of "Oceanic Posidonia". The town itself is well known for it's charismatic night life, but also has beautiful beaches such as the Cavallet ( with designated nudist areas ), the Platja D'en Bossa, the Figueretes, the Es Coddar pebble beach and the Talamanca for you to enjoy.
From the C-733 we detour onto a local road which takes us to Santa Eulària des Rui, where we can appreciate the wealth of history here including, the 14th century Santa Eulària church, reformed on two previous occasions, the Barrau museum which exhibits works from the famous Catalán painter Barrau and the Ethnical Museum dedicated to the rich traditions and ancient folklores of this lovely island. We return then to the C-733 and carry on until Sant Joan de Labritja agricultural centre, built in the style typical to this area and better known as the "Casaments". The 18th century church here is considered one of the most important in this area which is also revered for its lovely beaches, coves and cliffs. We continue now on the same road until we arrive at Sant Miquel de Balansat, an area also renowned for its "Casaments" as well as the impressive Gothic church. We then join the regional road and detour onto the C-731 taking us to Sant Antoni de Portmany, where you'll find the second largest population in Ibiza. Here the lovely 14th century white church of Sant Antoni is very prominent. Continuing on the C-731 we arrive at Sant Josep where we visit their parish church which houses an interesting baroque altarpiece. Also the important bird sanctuary, La Cala d'Hort is situated here amongst the natural beauty. Coming to the end of our journey we continue on the same road taking us on to Sant Jordi de Ses Salines, where you can admire the monuments such as the medieval church and fortress of Sant Jordi, one of the oldest on Ibiza and the ancient watch towers of Ses Portes and the 18th century Sal Rossa. The surrounding natural areas of Ses Salines have an importance in the refuge, migration and nesting of many bird species. |
