Routes around the Costa del Sol |

We begin our journey in the historic town of Malaga, the capital of the Costa Del Sol , spanning from the mouth of the Guadalmedina river up to the Gibalfaro hills. In Malaga, you can visit the impressive Arabic Alcazaba, behind which you will find the Gibralfaro castle, Roman theatre, renaissance cathedral better known as the La Manquita, the gothic style Del Sagrario church,
famous Malagueta beach and the unfinished Santiago Mudejar* church. ( * Spanish Muslims under Christian rule ) Take the motorway to Torremolinos, where there is an abundance of modern buildings amongst the older, more traditional ones such as the Torre Pimentel or neo - classic San Miguel church. From Torremolinos you can go on to Benalmadena, the antique Phoenician, Roman and Arabic settlement with the ancient fortifications such as the picturesque Castillo del Bil Bil. The main attractions here are the marvellous beaches, with the golden sands of Torrebermeja, La Morena and Carvajal being amongst the best. Continuing on the N340 to the beautiful village of Mijas, typically Andalucian with its narrow streets running between white houses colourfully decorated with vibrant flowers. The most notable attractions here are the Inmaculada Concepción parroquial church, La Ermita del Compas and the lovely miniatures museum. From Mijas you continue on the A- 387 to Marbella, the most famous and cosmopolitan town on the Costa de Sol. Here the Town Hall, La Casa del Corregidor and the La Ermita de Santiago area amongst the local architectural attractions, all of which are situated in the Los Naranjos square as well as the La Encarnacion church, Del Grabado Museum and of course lets not forget Puerto Banus. At the end of the N340 we finish our journey at Estepona, situated in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja. Here there are magnificent unspoilt beaches, the Paseo Maritimo, fishing port and ancient quarters to enjoy, as well as the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios church, antique Franciscan convent and a multitude of 16th century castles along the coast. With the surrounding Sierra Bermeja countryside there is a real wealth of local flora and fauna to appreciate. |
