The south Campiña route
This route passes through the south of Extremadura, where there is an abundance of examples left from the eras of the Orden de Santiago, Visigoths, Romans and Arabs.

We begin our journey in Bienvenida, a small town where we visit the 17th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles and the La Encomienda de la Orden de Santiago, which is now the local town hall building.

On the EX-302 we pass through Usagre, formerly inhabited by the Romans, Visigoths and Arabs, named command of the Order of Santiago. Here you can see the 15th century Mudejar - Gothic pariah church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia, the Cristo de la Piedad hermitage, the house of the inquisition and the towns Roman bridge.

Taking the N-432 to Villagarcía de la Torre, which has preserved the remains of a 16th century castle, the 15th -17th century Nuestra Señora de Araceli parish church, the 16th century Baroque convent - La Merced and the Baroque house of Los Grajeras. Continuing on the same road we arrive at Llerena, headquarters of the Los Maestres de la Orden de Santiago and headquarters of the Tribunal del Santo Oficio. In this beautiful area we can enjoy visiting the 14th century parish church -Nuestra Señora de la Granada, the Inquisition Tribunal courtyard, the Obispo palace, the 15th century Santiago church where Alonso de Cárdenas, the last maestro of the Orden de Santiago is buried, the Luis Zapata palace which is now the Palace of Justice and the 16th century Santa Clara convent. Taking a detour on the EX-103 until we arrive at Higuera de Llerena, founded by Pelai Pérez Correa, maestro of the Orden de Santiago in the 13th century. Amongst the most important monuments here are the 16th century parish church - Nuestra Señora del Valle, the Santo Cristo del Humilladero hermitage and the San Isidro church.

On the BA-4077 now until Azuaga, we take a brief stop in Berlanga, ancient Roman settlement, which still has some remains. In Azuaga there are various traces left from the previous settlements here, now the area is more famous for its wine production. We continue our detour on the BA-V-616 to Malcocinado, a locality on the foothills of the Sierra Morena. Here we visit the Del Grande country house, the Machacona fountain and the San Antonio Abad parish church.

We now pass through Guadalcanal, where we take the EX-200 road on to Fuente del Arco, a locality crossed by the impressive Sierra Morena, where we can visit the Mudejar hermitage - La Virgen de Ara. In the surrounding area you can see the Mina de la Jayona, a space which has been declared a natural monument. At the end of our journey we continue on the same road, finishing of at Reina, a mountainous area whose Arabic citadel has been declared a monument of Historic and Artistic importance, as well as the Visigoth Basilica house.
