Routes through the Sierra de Albarracin

The most interesting parts of this route are the marvellous scenery and urban landscapes which this municipality has to offer, with unusual constructions and narrow paved streets adding to the atmosphere.

We begin our journey in Albarracín, a picturesque town situated on a hill, where we start by visiting the Gothic cathedral Levantina del Salvador, whose interior houses two impressive altarpieces and a cathedral museum in the ancient chapel, then on to the Santa Maria and Santiago churches, the Episcopal palace, connected to the cathedral, the Monterde de Antillón palace as well as the Los Dolz de Espejo and Los Navarro de Azuriaga palaces.

At about 5km southeast of Albarracín, you'll find the Rodena de Albarracín surrounded by the Pinares de Rodeno de Albarracín a vast area of protected countryside, named so because of the large quantity of marine and resin pine trees which were completely exploited up until the middle of the last century. We then get to see the incredible cave paintings whilst visiting the Navazo, la Cocinilla del Obispo, la Losilla, or the Doña Clotilde and el Cabrerizo caves.
We then take the N-234 until we arrive at the first local road on the left, which we take until we arrive at Torres de Albarracín, a lovely village renowned for their fabrication of "Rejas"- ( forged grills and bars ) which can be seen on the windows and doors throughout this region.

Continuing on the same local road, we take a short stop in Tramacastilla, considered the centre of the Albarracín region. From here we carry on the local road until we turn off for Villar del Cabo where we visit the los Santos Justo and Pastor churches, the impressive town hall, los Fernández del Villar house and the los Muñoz palace. In the surrounding areas you can see the las Casas de Búcar and the ensemble of dolomites del Campo Villar de Cabo. We then take the road to Orihuela del Tremendal where we visit the magnificent renaissance town hall building, the many rural houses with forged rejas and the San Millán church. From Orihuela we can visit the Santuario de la Virgen del Tremendal , a perfect spot to stop and fully enjoy the spectacular panoramic views here. Continuing on the local road until Tervel where we detour to Bronchales, the most celebrated tourist town in this area, with the la Ermita de Santa Bárbara and a wonderful exhibition of mountain butterflies. We return to the motorway until the town of Tervel and visit the ancient church of Santa Maria de Media Villa with its Roman and Mudejar influence, the Salvador church whose interior houses the Cristo del Tres Manos, the San Pedro church where the Sepulchre of the Tervel lovers is preserved, the patio of the Episcopal de Tervel palace which contains impressive medieval paintings and various pieces of gold and silver works or the Aquaduct de los Arcos which is also a Viaduct making an easy passage for walkers to travel over, some of these and many other of the monuments have been officially declared as Cultural Heritage within the picturesque region of Teruel.
